IDEATION & sketchiNG

After identifying the core problems, I did a design studio to generate creative ideas and move forward to the design phase.

DESIGN SOLUTION

Jobz is an app that allows millennials to rank their priorities and interests then provides a list of jobs that match their preferences.

Feature prioritization

  • Evaluate priorities with 6 step process (Schedule, Income, Company Size, Location, Benefits, Location) - Core functionality

  • Rank priorities with 6 step process - Core functionality

  • Job database - Core functionality

  • Profile - An account home page is useful to store user data and help users keep track of their current priorities - Version 2.0

  • Save jobs button - An option to save jobs is important so that users can keep track of the careers they are most interested in and don’t have to go through the 6 step process every time they log in to the app unless their preferences change

  • Ranking slider bar - A slider bar is necessary because it makes it easier for the user to visualize the ranking system

USABILITY TESTING

I conducted a usability test on the paper prototype to uncover initial usability issues before creating lo-fi wireframes. After my first test, it became apparent that it would be clearer for users if I switched some screens around in the on-boarding process. Next, I designed lo-fi wireframes. After conducting 3 more usability tests, I changed the copy and button text to encourage first time users to move through the on-boarding process.

NEXT STEPS

Currently collaborating with developers to understand if APIs from Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and/or Indeed will be robust enough for us to pull in relevant job stats that match with users' priorities. Before we build this app, I would like to validate the idea with more user research to ensure we have a good product market fit.
